My mother in law took us to St. Vincent College where she now works. While on campus we got to visit the Saint Vincent Archabbey. It was a delight. The mixture of modern and traditional art there is wonderful.
Part of a Benedictine monastery, the archabbey basilica was a moving experience.
Beautiful stained glass windows illuminate the interior of the building, and illustrate biblical truths.
The basilica felt light and airy in spite of stones and iron and brass. The crypt was darker and more somber, it felt more frugal, but even there the art was impressive. I particularly liked the modern stained glass windows. They were darker than upstairs, and less colorful, and required more effort to understand what they communicate, but it was a wonderful experience.
